We all go through seasons of distress and heartache, and we tend to process our feelings internally, so we don't burden others with our emotional baggage. Sadly, this only serves to isolate and deepen those feelings instead of reconciling them.
If you see a friend going through a rough spot, make the effort to be an empathetic witness. Empathy is simply listening, holding space, withholding judgement, emotionally connecting, and communicating that incredibly healing message of "You're not alone."
One of the biggest gifts we can give is the gift of time to listen and understand.
